The Missouri Baptist Support Center was the fist of its kind in the St. Louis area and has remained for over twenty years free for its participants. The Grief Center is a safe place where adults, teens and children process their grief from the death of a loved one. Our philosophy is based on a client centered approach. We are here to meet the needs of those we serve.
Trained facilitators promote a compassionate, supportive and creative environment to help with the natural emotions that occur with such a loss. The programs at the Grief Support Center promote not only emotional healing, but spiritual healing as well.
Grief Support Programs at Missouri Baptist occur on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Groups meet for ninety minutes at different times of the day to accommodate families and individuals. The groups are open ended, which means that members are free to stay until they are ready to close out of the group.
Adult Programs
• Groups are comprised of adults who have lost a spouse, sibling, child, parent or friend
• Morning and evening groups are offered that meet every other week
• Young adult groups, adults in their 20s and 30s, also meet every other week
Family Programs
• Children’s groups are age appropriate: 4-7 years, 8-12 years and teenagers
• Children are encouraged to express themselves through group discussions, art, dress-up and play
• Parents meet together at the same time to share their concerns as they work through their own grief progress
• Family groups meet every other week
New Participants
• New individuals and their families are asked to go through an “intake process.” This allows people the opportunity to take a tour of the grief house and learn more about the program before attending a group session
• Members are placed in the appropriate group where their needs can be met in a safe relaxed environment.
