BJC invested $84 million in the training of health care professionals during 2007.

Bringing Nurses Back to the Bedside

Georgeanna Ensley received her master’s of science in rehabilitation nursing and started on the fast track in her nursing career. She first worked as a clinical nurse specialist for an out-of-state freestanding rehabilitation hospital, in a neuro intensive care unit, then assisted in opening rehab units and was promoted to vice president of professional services. On the road for nine years, she redefined her career goals and realized how much she missed being at the patient bedside. Read more >

Bright Beginnings

Life as a medical resident is busy enough as it is. But Calvin Barnes, MD, a second-year resident in diagnostic radiology, makes time for even more.

On a typical day, Dr. Barnes rotates throughout different areas in radiology to learn how to interpret CAT scan, ultrasound, mammogram and MRI results. Outside the clinical setting, he dedicates his time to being an active member of the Residents and Fellows Diversity Initiative, a program established by the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Center for Diversity and Cultural Competence.
