Vertigo is a feeling or sensation of spinning, lightheadedness, rapid eye jerking or nausea. The most common causes of vertigo include viral infections, positional vertigo, and Meniere's disease.
Vertigo can be diagnosed by a doctor or ear, nose and throat specialist based on the patient's medical history and symptoms. Other tests that may be used to diagnose vertigo include electronystagmogram (ENG) and MRI. Treatment for vertigo may consist of medical management, vestibular rehabilitation and, occasionally, surgery.
