What inspires Rosemarie Macher? Pretty much everything. Macher, a medical technologist at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, spends most of her free time painting. Her subjects range from pets, wildlife and landscapes to fields of flowers, butterflies and magazine pictures. A self-taught artist, she paints anything and everything that inspires and speaks to her using either oils or watercolors. Her work has been displayed in galleries around the area.
Though it’s still just a hobby, her painting has been paying for itself lately, she says. For the past 10 years, Macher would occasionally sell a painting or two. But since she appeared on KSDK-TV’s “Show Me St. Louis” last year, she’s had a steady stream of inquiries about her art. She’s even done commissioned paintings.
But she laughs and says, “My house is filled with my artwork. I keep a lot more than I sell. It seems like each time I do a new painting, it becomes my favorite.”
