Volunteer Nurse Program

Volunteer nurses can select a department and assist staff with patient care. Volunteers must have a valid Missouri RN license and attend orientation facilitated by Clinical Nursing Institute staff.

This program does not replace staff nurses, but provides an extra set of hands when needed. Sometimes this means giving patients extra attention during their recovery.

Volunteer nurse responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with patient hygiene
  • Feeding patients
  • Providing direct patient care and one-on-one observation
  • Performing technical functions such as vital signs, O2 saturations and dressing changes
  • Assisting with admissions, transfers and discharges
  • Clerical duties
