Cardiac Testing

Early diagnosis of cardiovascular disease is the most powerful tool available to you and your physician. Your doctor may order one or more of the following tests.

Blood Tests

Your physician may order a fasting glucose test to check your blood sugar level and/or a fasting lipoprotein profile to check your cholesterol levels.

Cardiac Catheterization

Our cath lab operates 24/7, performing diagnostic procedures to determine the extent of disease present in the vascular system.

Cardiac Event Monitor

Monitoring over an extended period of time, usually 30 days, to record heart rhythm during symptoms or an “event.”

Dobutamine Stress Echocardiogram

An ultrasound examination of the heart that is combined with medication.

An ultrasound examination of the heart that helps physicians see valve function and determine pressures in the heart’s chambers.

Electrocardiogram (EKG)

A test that records the electrical activity of the heart.

Holter Monitor

A continuous monitoring of your heart’s rhythm, usually throughout a 24-hour period.

Stress Echocardiogram

A test that combines ultrasound study of the heart with an exercise test.

Tilt Table Test

A test to determine how your body responds to changes in position.

Transesophageal Echocardiogram

A test that uses the same sound wave technology as a regular echocardiogram, but the pictures are taken by inserting a special probe into the esophagus (the tube that connects the mouth with the stomach).

Thallium Stress Test

A stress test that involves the injection of radioactive isotopes to allow the evaluation of blood flow to the heart muscle.
