Internal Medicine Residency

In 2023, following extensive discussions among leaders from Washington University School of Medicine, BJC HealthCare, and Missouri Baptist Medical Center, a need was identified for more community-based physicians in the St. Louis region. It was clear that Missouri Baptist, a premier regional hospital without graduate medical education programs, was the site of choice.

The goal of the internal medicine residency program is to train future internists in a community setting. The environment will place residents in close contact with leading community internists with training reflecting the daily practice of those physicians. Because Missouri Baptist Medical Center functions at a high level based entirely on the efforts of those who practice there, we are able to create a training program that is education, rather than service, based. The medical staff and non-physician hospital staff enjoy a warm and collegial relationship, and residents will enter an environment that treats them as valued future colleagues.

Missouri Baptist Medical Center (MoBap) values the importance of engaging our nurses in decisions impacting their practice and the patient care environment. Through a variety of unit-based and hospital-wide nursing and interprofessional teams, nurses can partner with one another and the leadership team to help make decisions about their practice environment and professional development.

Our Shared Governance Councils empower our nurses to discuss topics and make decisions which influence their own practice, as they identify problems and work towards solutions.
