Cancer Registry Report
The Cancer Registry is known for its substantial supportive role in the Missouri Baptist Medical Center’s Cancer Program. The Registry works with physicians, administrators, healthcare providers and planners to provide support for cancer program development, to ensure compliance to regulatory reporting requirements and standards, and to serve as a primary resource for cancer information and statistical information. A major function of the Registry is to record and analyze relevant patient data to include cancer diagnosis and treatment. The Registry also ensures compliance with the Commission on Cancer (CoC) standards, which ensures that Missouri Baptist provides the most comprehensive and patient centered cancer care for our patients.
The Registry currently has more than 35,000 cancer patients entered into the database, representing individuals who were diagnosed and treated at Missouri Baptist Medical Center since its reference date in 2002. The Registry provides lifetime follow up on all of these patients. The information collected in follow up ensures continuous medical surveillance of the patient and enables monitoring of treatment efficacy and survival.
In addition to the primary functions of data collection relevant to each cancer patient we treat, the Registry is involved in analyzing cancer data for the purpose of education, research, quality of care and outcomes measurement. This data is submitted to the state and the National Cancer Database. Aggregate data can be used as a clinical surveillance mechanism in review of patterns of care, and outcomes and survival, with the ultimate goals being cancer prevention and quality treatment delivery.
Physicians and other healthcare professionals are encouraged to utilize the data collected by the Cancer Registry.
